Man swings hatchet at vehicle in Port Colborne

A pedestrian might have swung a hatchet at a passing vehicle in Port Colborne during the weekend, according to police.

Police say they were called to the area of Highway 3 and Killaly St. West on Saturday at around 4:30 p.m. for a suspicious person incident in which a pickup truck was driving westbound on Killaly St. West while a male pedestrian was walking the opposite direction on the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the truck moved over to create space for the pedestrian as he got close, however, the pedestrian moved towards the truck and swung what is believed to be a hatchet at the passing vehicle.

The pedestrian entered a field adjacent to the roadway shortly after and as not been located, despite police efforts.

The suspect is described as a white male, between the ages of 40 and 50, with a medium build. He was seen wearing a black toque, and a baggy dark-brown jacket and pants.

Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, ext. 3200 or via Crimestoppers.
