Man causes $50,000 damage at St. Catharines hospital

The Niagara Health System Hospital in St. Catharines is looking at approximately $50,000 in property damages after a mischief incident Thursday morning, police say.

At approximately 11:55 a.m., police were contacted in regards to a violent male causing damage at the Fourth Ave. hospital.

Officers learned the man had barricaded himself in an area of the hospital and was causing “excessive damage” to hospital property.

Police arrested the man without any further incident.

Charged with the alleged offence of mischief over $5,000 is Artur Bialas of Niagara-on-the-Lake.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, though it did cause a short disruption to the regular operation of the hospital.

Bialas remains in custody and will attend a bail hearing on Wednesday at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

No further details have been released.
