Arrests made in vehicle warming thefts

Two men were arrested in Niagara Falls for an alleged vehicle theft that occurred in the city of St. Catharines, police say.

On Friday at approximately 1:15 p.m., police responded to the area of Morrison St. and Victoria Ave. for reports of stolen vehicle.

Police determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from St. Catharines earlier that day.

The vehicle in question collided with a snow bank in Niagara Falls Friday and by-standers in the area advised police that three suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

With the assistance of a canine unit and after setting up a perimeter in the area, police located and arrested two of the three suspects.

Charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 are 18-year-old Robert Bakker and 23-year-old Rohan Chandler, both of St. Catharines.

Chandler was also charged with breach of probation.

The third subject was identified as 19-year-old Caleb Beach of Dunnville.

Beach was already wanted on a warrant and a second warrant has been issued in relation to the vehicle theft.

Anybody with information can contact Niagara Regional Police at 905-688-4111.

Police remind citizens to be careful when warming their vehicles.
