CFL meeting returns to Canada, picks Niagara Falls

For the first time in 10 years, the Canadian Football League Players’ Association (CFLPA) will hold its Annual General Meeting in Canada instead of Las Vegas.

Fittingly, Niagara Falls — commonly described as Canadian Vegas — was their choice of location.

The five-day event will hit the city’s Fallsview Casino Resort from Feb. 28 to Mar. 4.

“We are thrilled to bring our annual meetings back to Canada, and Niagara Falls was an obvious choice for our executive team,” said Brian Ramsay, executive director of CFL Players’ Association.

“These meetings are foundational to our work for the year as we come together to establish strategies and plans before the CFL season begins for our membership.”

The AGM will be attended by members of the CFLPA’s board of directors, representatives from all CFL teams, league staff and league alumni.

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati said Sandy Annunziata, CFL alumnus and Niagara Regional councillor, was instrumental in convincing the association to choose the Niagara Region as the host for its return to Canada.

“We’re grateful to Sandy for going to bat and pushing for Niagara Falls on this project,” Diodati said.

“We’re hoping this becomes a long-term partnership and that the Falls will continue to host this event for years to come.”

Annunziata, who won two Grey Cups during his 11 years in the CFL, said Niagara Falls is a perfect match for the CFLPA’s needs.

“Niagara Falls makes great sense from a logistics standpoint. The city allows for a similar experience to what the association has enjoyed in Vegas over the years,” he said.

Niagara Tourism Partnerhship’s president Anthony Annunziata said Niagara Falls has “some of the best conference facilities in Canada, as well as great leisure activities for attendees to enjoy when their business is done.”
