Burgoyne Woods gets 100 new trees

Burgoyne Woods in St. Catharines looks a little greener as of Friday afternoon.

In partnership with IKEA and Tree Canada, Mayor Walter Sendzik represented the city to help plant 100 hickory trees at Burgoyne Woods, in an effort to revitalize the park's open space.

A variety of species of hickory saplings were planted, including butternuts, pignuts and shagbarks that ranged between two and three years of growth.

On June 2, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the city will also give away 600 trees to residents of St. Catharines, with butternut hickory being one of the available varieties.

The tree giveaway will be held at Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre.
