Garbage collection delayed across the region

Garbage collection is delayed across Niagara.

?Niagara Region says as a result of the cold weather, its collection contractor Emterra Environmental was unable to complete all of Friday’s garbage, recycling and organics collection across the region by Sunday, despite their efforts.

As far as recycling goes, Emterra was out Monday collecting the remaining recyclable material in Grimsby, Lincoln, West Lincoln, Thorold and St. Catharines.

Niagara Falls residents whose regular collection day is Friday are asked to remove their recyclable material from the curb and place it out for collection on Saturday, Jan. 6.

As far as garbage and organics goes, residents in Fort Erie, Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Thorold and West Lincoln whose regular collection day is Friday and who have not had their garbage collected by Sunday are being asked to remove the garbage from the curb and place it out for collection on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Residents in the affected areas will be permitted to place three garbage bags or containers for collection and there is no limit to the amount of recycled or organic material that residents can place for curb-side collection.

If your organic waste bin is full, the Region says you may use a rigid container or yard waste bags to place organics at the curb.

If your blue and grey boxes are full, residents may also use a rigid container or a clear plastic bag to place recyclables at the curb.

The Region will provide updates on the status of collection on its website, Twitter or Facebook by 5 p.m. daily.

For more information, residents may call Waste Management Services at 905-356-4141 or 1-800-594-5542, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m Monday through Friday.
