Did you miss it? Gas hit 90.9 cents a litre in NOTL – for a while

For a few hours on Thursday, the gas price at the Petro-Canada gas station on Mississagua Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake was less than a buck a litre.

At 90.9 cents, it was the cheapest gas price in ages. But by late afternoon the price was back up to the old bargain price of $1.03.

While the "sale" was on the station was busy with drivers lined up to fill their tanks.

Virgil resident Gerry Blackmore said he couldn't recall the last time the price was below $1 a litre. He said he was so happy with the low price he brought his second vehicle in to top up.

Another NOTL resident, George Schneider, said he filled his truck earlier in the day and returned to the station in the afternoon to put gas into a jerrycan to use later for his snowblower.

"I appreciate it," he said about the price drop. "Gas is too expensive in general, but it is what it is."

Other gas stations around NOTL were still charging more than $1 per litre, according to GasBuddy.

As of Thursday afternoon, the average regular unleaded gas price in Ontario was 107.0 per litre, according to GasBuddy. That was down by 2.4 cents from last week’s average of 109.5 a litre, and 7.7 cents lower than the last month’s average price of 114.8.
