Businesses can apply for NOTL's tourism recovery grant

Businesses in Niagara-on-the-Lake can now apply for a bit of of extra money to help with tourism-related projects during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The grant, dubbed the Niagara-on-the-Lake Tourism Recovery Grant, was created in collaboration with FedDev Ontario and delivered in partnership with the NOTL Chamber of Commerce, winery operators and Niagara Region.

Small-medium sized Enterprises and arts and culture not-for-profit organizations in town can apply for the grant, and may receive between $4,000 and $20,000, to cover up to 80 per cent of a tourism-related project.

The program, announced on Aug. 25 by minister of ecomonic development Melanie Joly, was made possible thanks to a $500,000 investment from FedDev Ontario and is expected to support approximately 50 businesses and maintain about 100 jobs.

"We are excited to launch the application process and to bring this incredible opportunity to our business community,” said NOTL treasurer Kyle Freeborn, in a media releas. “We are grateful for this contribution from FedDev Ontario and are hopeful it will provide vital support for Niagara-on-the-Lake businesses.”

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Town’s Discretionary Grant Committee, consisting of Councillors Allan Bisback and Norm Arsenault, along with Eduardo Lafforgue, President and CEO of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce, Paul Harber, Chief Proprietor of Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery, Madison Vine, Channel Marketing Manager at Peller Estates Winery, and Linda Sicoli, Niagara Region Economic Development Officer.
