UPDATE: No guns involved in St. Catharines incident

UPDATE: Police say investigation revealed there was no weapon involved in a Thursday incident that saw two arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Dylan Maniacco, 28 of St. Catharines has been charged with the alleged offence of mischief below $5,000.

 

ORIGINAL: Police say two people have been arrested after shots were fired in St. Catharines Thursday.

At around 9:40 p.m., police responded to a multi-unit residential building in the area of Merritt St. and Oakdale Ave. in St. Catharines for a report of a shot being fired from a firearm in an apartment.

Police evacuated the nearby apartments as they attempted to talk to the people inside the apartment, who were refusing to exit.

As a result, an emergency task unit, a canine unit and crisis negotiators were called to the scene.

At around 1:05 a.m. Friday, a male exited the apartment and surrendered to police. A female in the apartment was also arrested. Both were charged for weapons related offences.

The matter remains under police investigation.

Police said further information will be issued later today.
